Welcome to Micronized, a South African based mining and minerals processing group which has supplied industrial minerals and related services for over five decades.
Since 1972, Micronized has established itself as an international supplier of quality minerals to diverse sectors, including paint and coatings, glass, plastics, rubber, automotive, ceramics, adhesives, paper, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals.
2020
Pegmin and Micronized Johannesburg jointly invest in proprietary Mica separation and milling facilities to become South Africa’s sole producer of milled Mica products. SA industry will have access to world class mica products at competitive SA mineral prices.
Micronized Grahamstown invests in Rotary Drying capabilities in order to launch the new Kaolin FF product. Kaolin FF is a very low moisture (<1%) and Free Flowing Kaolin that was previously imported into South Africa largely for Agricultural usages.
2019
Consolidation of Micronized Johannesburg’s Greenside Head Office and Benrose factory as offices are built at the factory.
2017
Micronized acquires the Mayfield, Glenhoek and Kleihoogte mines in the greater Grahamstown region. This deal allows Micronized to control its own Kaolin and Ball Clay reserves and to continue to grow capacity of this critical industrial mineral.
2016
Micronized Limpopo invests in specialised screening capacity in order to supply the Glass Industry with sub 1mm Glass Grade Feldspar
2015
Pegmin invests in a new screening and VSI crushing plant that runs parallel to its main wash and sort process in order to produce a bulk low cost <6mm Feldspar material for the porcelain ceramics industry.
2013
Micronized Grahamstown is commissioned to provide specialist kaolin processing and supply to the local and export markets.
2011-2012
Capital expansion into logistics and acknowledgement for our status as a best-practice international producer. As a focus for the future, export markets will be further developed as raw material resources continue to evolve.
2010
The Micronized laboratory sits firmly at the technological forefront of its field. We offer customers professional advice and technical service on over 30 different industry uses, including the formulation of optimised paints, coatings, filler and extender systems.
Ever progressive in its environmental awareness, Micronized introduces a range of innovative polymers which reduces solvent use in enamel paints and decreasing the per litre cost to the benefit of consumers everywhere.
We return to our roots! After 38 years as a vermiculite distributor, Micronized re-enters the industry as a processor. With the advent of a state-of-the-art vermiculite processing plant, capable of an impressive 500 000 bag per annum supply to the South African horticultural, animal feed and construction industries.
2009
Kaolin production commences. A supply chain to the agricultural, metallurgical, coating and soap industries is established.
2008
Micronized establishes a specialised agency with Disamtex Brazil. Eco-friendly products include emulsifiers (Disastab) and paper industry process aids.
2007
Expansion of talc capacity at Micronized Johannesburg. Customer service laboratory becomes fully operational.
2002
Micronized Johannesburg moves its milling operation from City Deep to its current site in Benrose.
2000-2002
Micronized establishes corporate offices in Greenside, Johannesburg. Production capacity increases by 60%. A technical formulation service to the industry is introduced.
1995-1999
Production at Micronized’s City Deep facility, south of the Johannesburg CBD, commences. The company’s product range is bolstered by the addition a new product called Tioxsil: a high brightness titanium dioxide extender.
1994
Micronized introduces and develops new products: Pharmaceutical Talc, Barytes (Barium Sulphate) and white powders (Microbrite). In-house manufacturing comprises 75% of its turnover.
1992
Micronized is nominated for the State President’s Award for Export Achievement.
1991
Micronized bids for the Pegmin – the minerals division of the Rand London Corporation Ltd and a consortium is formed to purchase the assets. Associate company Micronized’s Milling and Manufacturing develops the first South African micronizing and dry particle fractionation technology.
1985-1989
Micronized moves into direct production of micaceous minerals and provides toll crushing and milling services.
1981
Micronized commences bulk supply to the cement and animal feed industries. Mica Agency is concluded. Following international health concerns and legislation, the company develops an asbestos replacement system.
1974-1977
Goldflo – a world first development of phyllosilicate, used as a filter aid in the brewery, beverage and dry-cleaning industries. Manufacturing processes and applications are initiated in the sectors of paper manufacture, adhesives, coatings and polymers.
1972
A world first: the development of vermiculite as a carrier in medicinal applications.
Micronized Products is incorporated and establishes an agency and service level agreement to innovate novel uses for vermiculite with Phalaborwa Mining Company
